Amber Palace

11 km from the Jaipur-Delhi route in Amber, the ancient capital of the erstwhile Jaipur state of the Kachhawaha rulers, construction was started in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I, one of the Army commanders under Emperor Akbar. It was subsequently added on to by successive rulers.

last being Sawai Jai Singh II, who then shifted his capital to the Pink city - Jaipur in 1727 AD The spots worth visiting at Amer are the Diwan-E-Am, Diwan-E-Khas or the Sheesh Mahal or Jai Mandir with exquisite mirror work, the Sukh Niwas, the Shila Mata Temple and Jagat Shiromani temple and the well laid out garden the Kesar Kyari. Amer was constructed over a period of two centuries and even today it is a formidable edifice easily accessible on foot, by car or jeep or in the royal style on an elephant back.
