Hawa Mahal

The palace of winds or Hawa Mahal is to Jaipur what the Taj Mahal is to Agra. It was Built in 1799 AD by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh This five story pyramidal pink edified with honeycombed sandstone windows in pink with white intricate designs painted around to give it a lacy look. This Indo Persian monument has two courtyards the Anand pole and the Chandra Pole.


Hawamahal : the tourists' special

It was from here that the ladies of the court looked down upon the road below at the processions and everyday activities which could be watched without having to cover their faces as purdah was a custom prevalent in those days. The Pratap Mandir which was the personal quarter of Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh now houses a museum where antiquities of the Dhoondhar region are on display.
