Jodhpur is today the second largest city of Rajasthan, with a population of 650,000. It is a major military base and an important center of research in aridzone agriculture. Yet in many ways,it has not changed all that much from the old fortified town that was built under the protective cover of the brooding Mehrangarh Fort. The 15th century town walls are still there , punctuated by massive gates; and the old quarter of Jodhpur is a fascinating place, with its narrow jumble of lanes, its havelis and its fine medieval water tanks. Take a walk through its lanes, starting from the old Fateh Pol past the 15th century Jetha Bera Tank, through the colorful little lane of Jaisalmeriyon ki Gali, past the beautiful Talati ka Mahal, a palace turned hospital and ending , finally at the Juni Dhanmandi ,the old grain market.
