The
Royal Orient Train a Life Time Experience
A
journey on the Royal
Orient is worth an experience. A joint venture of the
Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd and the Indian Railways, the
train is furnished with all modern amenities like centralised
air conditioning, plush carpeting and modern bathrooms. Furnished
with fittings of the bygone days, the train is done up in a style
that revokes the lifestyles of the royal families of India. With
antique lampshades and furniture, the train is a traveling, moving
palace. Over a period of seven days, the course of the train charts
through Chittaur in Rajasthan, taking the tourists on a tour of
the tragic yet touching history of this princely town. Sites worth
seeing are the Chittaur Fort built in the 7th century, the nine-story
Watch Tower of Chittaur and agenda and so is the architectural
marvel of Gujarat the sun Temple of Modhera. A rare edifice of
the Solanki Era built in 1026 AD, this imposing yet beautiful
monument is a tribute to Indian art and architecture. A stopover
at Patan means a visit to the home of the famous Patola silk saree,
Also famous is the Rani-ki- vav, a step well built in the year
1050 Ad. The train also has a scheduled halt at Ahmedabad. The
Gandhi Ashram is a tranquil precinct that houses the Mahatma's
personal belongings.
Around the 4th day, the train halts at Gir forest. Apart from
being one of the countr's important sanctuaries, it is also the
only palace in the world apart from Africa- where the lion can
be seen in its natural habitat. The train also passes the beach
of Ahmedpur Mandvi and the island of Diu. The fifth day on the
train sees you at picturesque pilgrim center with over 863 temples
assimilated on a hill. Weaving in and out of Rajasthan and Gujarat,
the train also crosses Rankpur, one of the five main holy places
of the Jains located 96 kms from Udaipur. The seventh day is spent
at Jaipur visiting the well-known landmarks and as the train winds
it's wav into Delhi, reality hits you as the journey comes full
circle. The best way to experience the magic of Gujarat and Rajasthan,
the train takes you back in time while giving modern day comforts.
In the luxurious coupes of the train, with a service than befits
a Maharaja, time comes to a standstill in the Royal orient.
