Leather
Work - In every village of
Rajasthan there are families of chamars or Mochis. The lowly
cobbler class,who collect dead animals for their hides. The
hides are cleaned and processed by an indigenous method, and
the processor leather is used to make shoes. Sandals, pouches
and other items. The quality of craftsman of the poor, neglected
artisans in this trade is amazingly high.
Jootis
- In Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Barmer,
soft processed goat or sheep skin in decorated with colorful
needle work. From these hides, Jhootis(leather sandals) (above)
pouches, purses, belts and saddles accessories are fashioned.
